Our project. Can you support?

Barry Mc Cartin (helm) and I decided to team up after a good meeting at the national YC before Christmas for a 470 campaign towards London 2012 (and more realistically Rio 2016). The first couple of sessions in the cold Irish winter early january have been very interesting and we have taken the step of acquiring a more recent boat to match our ambitions for 2010 ( see our diary below).

Barry's CV in a Nutchell:

• 5th at the topper Europeans 2004
• double laser 4.7 national champion 2005-2006
• laser radial national champion 2008
• Topper national coach
• has sailed 470 for a year now ( former crew Finbarr Bradley)

With Barry' s exams coming to an end, it was definitely time to hit the water and train. Thanks to Gerry for these initial videos:

Medemblick... Final act! one race today to conclude a full series of 11 races. the breeze was pretty light at first and then picked up to a lovely 10kts. Our start was disastrous; lack of anticiaption and we got boxed at the starboard end, but we seemed to hold pace and relatively good heights this time and we were wel...l in touch at the initial windward and at the gate... Two well timed tacks early in the second beat pulled us back into mid twenties before the main sheet "gave up" with only the core left and the rest jamming into the blocks... That surely costed us two places on the final reach when Barry could not play the main freely. final race: 29th for an overall result of 76th (35th in silver). More importantly we kept progressing each day and are coming back to Ireland with a lot to think about and a clearer picture of where we stand.
