Laser Clinics in Kinsale, June 2010
Kinsale
YC hosted a very successful laser clinic mid June (8-16) for its
members and a few visitors. Organised by Thomas Chaix (www.tcsailingcoach.com)
supported by highly rated local coach George Kingston and Topper
national coach Barry McCartin, the clinic last 9 days and the
sailors could enjoy the various sailing conditions Kinsale can
offer from a solid 25 kts to very light and shifty winds, in and
out of the tide, chop or flat water (...). It surely made up for
a massive learning opportunity for all sailors. Videos were taken
and analysed (over 200 clips) and each technique to make the laser
faster were discussed. Mid clinic, we had the TCS regatta, a PY
laser open event. Winds were very light which were going to put
the bigger rigs as favourites to take the trophy home... But it
was not to be their day and local 4.7 sailor Conor Murphy won
the first race just about edging fellow KYC club mate Darragh
Muldoon ( also 4.7) on the line. The second race was taken by
full rif Monkstown sailor Ronan Keneally but once more Conor was
upthere taking 3rd and the overall win.
A DVD was produced highlighting all topics covered and including
all video clips as well as the regatta
results.
