Optimist : Daire Cournane flying start to his Campaign towards UK nationals
With the optimist trials concluded, it is back to the the quest for provincial glory and preparation of a busy racing summer. 470 campaign : Tough times in the Delta Lloyd regatta
76th ( and 27th nation) out of 81 boats. At first it definitely looks awful ( come on, lets be honest!) but it must be said the 10 days in Holland were extremely rich in learning points and from an initial day racing where we got properly shocked at the standard required to compete at that level and 3 DFL finishes in a row (ouch it hurts... our pride to the least), we steadily came back towards the fleet and were able to compete within the "weaker" end of the fleet by the end of the regatta. Overall, our light wind skills require a lot of work whilst when the breeze goes above 10-12 kts it is pretty much our upwind lines that require a good look at... Speed and height is the major issue which impact the level of risks we took tactically. It was nice to see we were mainly gaining ground or places on reaches, especially in the breeze and were holding nicely our downwind positions in the big breeze. So it was tough, very tough but surely gave us a lot of food for thoughts going forward Event Video day 3:
