Sophie Browne on top goes to the Worlds
It was an amazingly consistent series that gave a slight edge to Sophie over Sean Donnelly at the trials. Only one race win but rarely outside top 3, Sophie was somehow a favourite after a solid winter and she delivered! The Tralee sailor has opted to represent Ireland at the worlds. It is a courageous move as she will be going on her own but she surely can raise to the challenge in New Zealand next winter. |
Sean Donnelly will lead the European team
Possibly disapointed at first to end his trials in 2nd, Sean Donnelly had a month of April full of emotions, race wins and finally another chance to shine at the Europeans. He will be one of the natural leader for a good team mixing experience and newbie. Peter McCann ( 7th at the Euros 2010), Harry Whitaker, Eoin Lyden, Cliodhna Ni Suilebeahn, Jil McGinley and Megan Parker will complete the team. I will coach the team next July in Tavira, Portugal and we will hope to top the results of last year when the country ranked 7th with the best invidual results of the last 10 years ( at least). |
Can Daire Cournane win the German open?
Daire was one of the favourite but after his disastrous ( by his standard) first leg, he could only recover to 7th overall and with Robert Dickson ( 6th), the two ex-U12 leaders will have a go at winning the German Open, a tough task, but not impossible considering their experience on the international scene. The team will be composed by 10 sailors so Daire and rob will be joined by Sean Waddilove, Adam Hyland, Richard Hogan, Fergus Flood, Sean Gambier Ross and Ronan Cournane for the boys and Aoife Hopkins and Alacoque Daly for the girls. |
